Initial Disclosure Date: Jul 5, 2012

On the July 4th evening, the website of the Fukushima Nuclear Accident Independent Investigation Commission (NAIIC) under the Diet temporarily suffered access difficulties. The commission was established to elucidate the causes of the Fukushima nuclear disaster. The GMO Internet, a server administrator for the website in Tokyo, believes that it was possibly caused by overseas cyber-attacks.

Around 3pm on July 4, the GMO server faces a large amount of accesses from overseas. This resulted in the unavailability or unstableness of the website display and emails. Around 11:50pm, the GMO Internet blocked off such suspicious accesses and the website was restored late evening. There was no damage such as data falsification.

The NAIIC prioritizes to inform the public by broadcasting live coverage of its discussions. On July 5, the commission will release a report about the background and causes of Fukushima incident and broadcast live a press conference of Chairman Kiyoshi Kurokawa.
